President & Owner

Dr. James Cale has extensive experience in the design and control of power electronic drive systems and in the design of electromagnetic systems/devices such as electrical machines and transformers, and the application of systems engineering. His technical background has focused on energy conversion, power electronics, finite-inertia power systems, computational and applied electromagnetics, biologically-inspired optimization methods, microgrids, power hardware-in-the-loop, and machine learning algorithms.

In addition to serving as the President and Owner of PEMCA, James holds an associate professorship at Colorado State University in the Mechanical Engineering Department and Systems Engineering Program. Prior to joining CSU he managed the Distributed Energy Systems Integration Group at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and worked in senior engineering roles at Advanced Energy Industries and Orbital ATK. He currently serves as the lead of the Americas Region for the International Microgrid Sysposiums.

He earned a doctorate in electrical engineering from Purdue University and bachelors degree from Missouri University of Science & Technology (summa cum laude).
